Every Empty Aluminum Can Counts

Image

A Recycling Initiative!

At the picturesque Rethymno seafront, an extraordinary sight signals – the #RETHYMNO recycling bin, crafted from metal mesh!

This initiative, unveiled during last year's carnival, is a remarkable collaboration between the Rethymno Municipality and a beer company.
Beyond its captivating design, this project carries a profound message – each aluminum can, once empty, holds immense value in the world of recycling.

By showcasing this creative bin, Rethymno's coastal charm now echoes with a powerful reminder of the circular economy's wonders and being an active person.

Originating as a dynamic highlight of the historic carnival, this initiative has now found permanence, marking itself as both a recycling fun point and a photography stop for both locals and visitors.

A beam of sustainability that symbolizes the collective responsibility to recycle and the beauty of the circular economy. Rethymno municipality is also actively participating in the Interreg “Plasteco” initiative for plastic recycling.

In the heart of one of Greece's grandest and most storied carnivals, this initiative takes center stage, mirroring the ethos of the grand floats that grace the festivities – most floats that are designed every year are crafted from recycled materials.

This is Rethymno's call to a more sustainable carnival experience, echoing a future where every aluminum can contribute to a greener world.
The Municipality of Rethymno is unwavering in its commitment to transforming the city into a haven of sustainability, embracing eco-consciousness to welcome visitors from all over the world that choose Rethymno as their favored destination.

Let's celebrate this remarkable journey toward a more environmentally conscious future!

City of Rethymno

You are invited to travel to areas, which are perhaps still unknown to the majority, and which are sometimes remote, but always magical and magnificent throughout the seasons. We recommend our visitors to see our picturesque villages through the eyes of the soul, try the Cretan cuisine, our wine and “tsikoudia”, participate in our revelries and festivities, but most importantly get to know our soul, our hospitality, the safe, untouched interior of the region, the other Rethymno.
