Media team from USA arrived in Rethymno Crete
for familiarization trip

A media team from USA visited Rethymno for a familiarization trip on invitation by the Greek National Tourism Organization. The purpose of the trip was to increase the number of arrivals from the US, share the most updated destination information, and promote Rethymno as a hidden hospitality gem with a wide range of options available.

We also had the chance to promote Rethymno as a unique experience All Year Round with all that Rethymno has to offer and is available for tourists in a safe and friendly destination that give different answers to the different needs of travelers.

Welcoming the visitors, the mayor of Rethymno, Giorgis Marinakis, stressed that "Rethymno is not the place you go, but the place you return to" and pointed out to journalists that the goal is focusing on the quality of the destination and providing high-quality services, highlighting Rethymno as a successful example of sustainable tourism and a perfect destination for travelers to unwind and reconnect with nature.

During their stay, they experienced the unique Cretan hospitality, and the famous Cretan cuisine by visiting many gastronomic places and various amenities and services available in individual properties.
Culture, gastronomy, nature conservation, sustainability, and wellness-focused experiences are among their interests.

Rethymno truly offers a diverse range of experiences for visitors to enjoy. Here are some information on the attractions and activities that were mentioned during their visit:

Hiking: Rethymno is blessed with beautiful landscapes and hiking trails. One popular trail is the Mili Gorge, a stunning gorge nearby Rethymno. It offers views and a chance to immerse yourself in nature and preindustrial architecture since there are many old water mills. There are also other gorges in the area, such as Patsos Gorge and Kourtaliotiko Gorge, which offer unique hiking experiences.

Beaches: Rethymno boasts numerous gorgeous beaches along its coastline. Some of the notable ones include Preveli Beach with its palm forest and river delta, its crystal-clear turquoise waters, and Plakias Beach with its golden sand. Whether you're looking for relaxation or water activities, Rethymno's beaches have something for everyone.

Caves: Rethymno is home to several fascinating caves waiting to be explored. One of the most famous is the Melidoni Cave, known for its archaeological and historical significance. Another notable cave is the Sfendoni Cave, renowned for its stunning stalactite and stalagmite formations.

Wineries and Farms: Rethymno offers a great opportunity to indulge in Cretan gastronomy and experience authentic wine and farm visits. At the wineries in the region where you can sample local wines and learn about the winemaking process. Additionally, visiting farms allows you to discover traditional Cretan products, such as olive oil, cheese, and honey, and learn about the local agricultural practices.

Monuments and Museums: Rethymno's rich history is reflected in its monuments and museums. The Old Town of Rethymno itself is a living museum, with its Venetian and Ottoman architecture. You can explore the Venetian Fortezza, a well-preserved fortress offering panoramic views of the city. The Archaeological Museum of Rethymno houses artifacts from various periods, providing insight into the island's past. Eleutherna Archaeological Site and Museum,  offer a glimpse into ancient Cretan civilization.

You are invited to travel to areas, which are perhaps still unknown to the majority, and which are sometimes remote, but always magical and magnificent throughout the seasons.
